- Programme leader: Railway Operations, Management and Policy MSc
I am a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Leeds. Within the Institute for Transport Studies, rail research not only has a long tradition, but has also been identified as a key priority area for future growth. I share the Institute’s interest in the railway industry and have worked on a wide range of rail projects nationally and internationally.
Recent focus has been centred on a portfolio of large, cross-disciplinary projects combining rail operations, engineering, economics and policy. Examples of these projects include the EU-funded ‘Needs Tailored Interoperable Railway (NeTIRAIL-INFRA)’ (2015-2018) projects, the EPSRC-funded ‘Designing steel composition and microstructure to better resist degradation during wheel-rail contact’ (2016-2017) and ‘Road to Rail Energy Exchange (R2REE)’ (2016-2019) projects and the InnovateUK-funded ‘Real-time Accurate Positioning & Protection of Rail Transport’ (2017-2018).
As an economist, I am specialised in the fields of socio-economic appraisal and valuation. My rail research includes the appraisal of railway innovations, studies on passengers’ demand and valuation of rail improvements such as travel time and reliability, the analysis of railway costs and performance and the relationship between the railway and the wider economy. I work closely with major public sector agencies, industry and other organizations.
I am passionate about teaching and have always been committed to providing students with the best possible experience while studying at Leeds and with the necessary tools for the future. As the Programme Leader for Railway Operations, Management and Policy MSc I look forward to helping students achieve their full potential.
