ITS alumnus wins Taylor & Francis CSC Research Implementation and Uptake stream prize
Congratulations to ITS Alumnus Prof Dr M. Shafiq-Ur Rahman who wins the 2021 prize for his article "Public bike-sharing schemes (PBSS): Prospects in Bangladesh".
The research outlined in the journal article has been implemented in local levels of Bangladesh. The journal article discussed the feasibility of implementing public bike-sharing schemes (PBSS) in Bangladesh, particularly in Dhaka city, and discussed the major issues that need to be considered.
The detailed scheme of bike-sharing for the case study locations in Dhaka were prepared and a SWOT analysis made of the proposed scheme. Based on the guidelines and suggestions provided in the paper, the PBSS has now been implemented in seven different locations, including Jahangirnagar University campus, in Bangladesh.
Following the guidelines suggested in the paper and working with private company, Jobike Limited, PBSS was first introduced in Jahangirnagar University where Professor Rahman works.
Prof Dr M. Shafiq-Ur Rahman said: “I am proud and feeling very happy about winning the Taylor & Francis CSC (Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK) Research Implementation and Uptake stream award. This is a global recognition of my work, my research activities.
“I acknowledge the support I have continuously received from my family members and the contributions from my research assistants. Every award gives motivation for further work. I think, winning this award will motivate me for working hard towards my research activities. Winning this award means a lot for me both professionally and personally.
“I am grateful to ITS-Leeds University for providing me excellent foundation of research activities during my PhD (2010-2013) under Commonwealth Scholarship Scheme. Personally, I feel happy and satisfied as I was able to contribute for betterment of the society and people through my research.”
