Congratulations to Dr Thiago Guimaraes Rodrigues, winner of the CODATU Prize of the Best PhD Thesis Written in the English Language on Urban Mobility in Cities of Developing Countries.

Thiago was unanimously recommended by committee as the winner of the CODATU Prize for the Best PhD Thesis Written in the English Language on Urban Mobility in Cities of Developing Countries for CODATU XVIII.

His PhD Thesis entitled, ‘Bridging the accessibility gap to healthcare: The role of urban transport for low-income communities in São Paulo, Brasil’ was awarded by the University of Leeds in 2020. The prize ceremony took place during the closing ceremony of CODATU 2021 virtually on 23 November 2021.

His PhD research involved gaining an in-depth understanding of the accessibility to healthcare by low-income communities in a developing city.

It is really amazing to be informed that the PhD thesis I wrote in Leeds will be awarded. I am enormously happy about this achievement.

Thanks to my PhD supervisors Prof Karen Lucas and Dr Paul Timms who made this achievement possible.

Thiago currently works as an independent consultant to foster a culture of research excellence and ensure high quality of WRI Brazil’s knowledge products across the programmes Cities (Urban Development and Transport), Climate and Forests. His expertise lies in assessing the social impacts of urban transport policies. He has 20 years of experience in transport research, knowledge exchange and policy evaluation.
