Exploring port and mode decisions for grain consolidators in Argentina. A behavioural model

Presented by Rodrigo Tapia, Institute for Transport Studies, University of Leeds.

Normally in freight and passenger transport, the mode or destination choices are considered to have a discrete nature. Nevertheless, in decisions made at a tactical level, this may not be always be the case since business can allocate a given total transport quantity (e.g. an annual volume of soy) to different modes of transport. Using a stated preference experiment, we explore the multiple discreteness of the choice of port and mode for grain consolidators in Argentina. This data will be combined with revealed preference data of grain movement in order to have a more consistent model for policy making.
