Inspiring sedimentology conference held in Leeds

In December, the School of Earth and Environment hosted the 63rd British Sedimentological Research Group (BSRG) Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The conference gave the sedimentological community an opportunity to get together, strengthen its connections and share research.

Over 120 sedimentologists from all over the UK and as far afield as Brazil, China and the USA visited Leeds for the diverse event.

It included an exciting range of activities over the three days, from high-profile keynote talks to an icebreaker social at The Tetley.

A combined field trip and core workshop showed guests the Geothermal Campus initiative at Leeds.

At Cloth Hall Court, there were over 100 presentations on topics including outcrop geology, subsurface solutions for the energy transition, and societal challenges that sedimentology can help address, like transport and microplastics.

Lunchtime forums were set up in different areas such as ‘industry’ and ‘postgraduates’ to facilitate discussions and build networks.

A conference dinner at Akbars left everyone with a great taste of Leeds.

The AGM was organised by Dr Adam McArthur, Professor Dave Hodgson, Professor Jeff Peakall and Dr Steven Andrews

It was supported by field trip leaders Dr Arka Sakar and Joe Kelly, core workshop leader Dr Richard Collier as well as postgraduate volunteers.

The International Association of Sedimentologists, Geosolutions Leeds and GeoTek sponsored the event.
