My main responsibilities currently include providing strategic highways advice to support major planning applications. I work across all areas but am focused mainly on the food retail, leisure, employment and residential sectors. I am involved in the initial feasibility stages of developments, providing expert advice on the scope and layout of schemes. Following this, I prepare reports and network analysis models to support the planning application.
I believe my experience at ITS has helped me in my present job as it taught me to report writing, problem solving and working to strict deadlines which were all skills I strengthened during the course. But more importantly was the technical knowledge I acquired in areas such as network modelling and transport data collection and analysis. This has really proved to be a useful investment as I draw on my knowledge on a daily basis. The course has really helped in my career.
“I specifically chose my course at ITS, Leeds because ITS has an excellent reputation in the transport industry and it was this and the recommendations I received from colleagues that made ITS an obvious choice.”
My advice to new students considering enrolling in an ITS course is that you will make friends and contacts from around the world that will undoubtedly be extremely useful during your future career. The course is demanding but the support is in place to make sure you will emerge at the other end more knowledgeable and far more employable.
