Following my Bachelor’s degree at the University of Trier, Germany in Applied Geography & Spatial Planning, I decided on ITS due to its good reputation. At ITS, my course covered areas of transport engineering, transport planning and environmental assessments and analysis. I found myself really enjoying the air quality course. The final requirement of the Masters was the dissertation, which I wrote based on a placement that I could undertake at Nuremberg Airport. I analysed the surface access behaviour of low cost carrier passengers compared to full service airline passengers, assessing the difference in CO2 emissions due to the different surface access behaviours.

Following my degree at ITS, I started as a graduate at JMP where I got involved in all areas of transport planning. I supported on Transport Assessments, prepared Travel Plans, got involved in microsimulation modelling and prepared strategy and masterplan documents. I also started the Professional Development Scheme which is run by the Transport Planning Society, using it as a guidance to pursue the Chartered Transport Planning Professional qualification thereafter.

In 2015 I started as a Transport Planner at WSP and got thrown into larger, multi-disciplinary projects as well as line management. I am now managing two graduates, which I really enjoy. Since then, I have progressed to Senior Transport Planner and am now managing a range of major multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects in Leeds, which are being funded through DfT funding as part of the Connecting Leeds schemes. Due to my experience and involvement in developing P&R sites and producing a demand forecasting variable demand tool, I have become the WSP lead on P&R sites and am leading on several P&R sites across the UK. As part of my own professional development, I have successfully finished the Professional Development Scheme in August 2019 and have submitted my CTPP application in September 2019. From the experience I gained through both processes I have taken on the role as the Early Career Development Lead for the northern WSP offices and am regularly providing training and am mentoring colleagues who wish to pursue a similar qualification.
