Global Forest Monitoring

This project comprises of the RAINFOR and AfriTRON networks that focus on the dynamics of intact forest in Amazonia and Africa respectively, TROBIT, which aims to understand the processes underlying forest/savanna transitions across the globe and AMAZONICA which aims to provide an integrated understanding of the carbon balance of Amazonia.

Underpinning much of this work is the ForestPlots database: a unique online resource for the management of vegetation data from the tropics.

These projects have been funded by a wide range of agencies including the Moore Foundation, NERC, The Royal Society and the European Union.
