Food Safety, Security and Sustainability
Our research explores the interconnections between food safety, supply chain resilience, and sustainable food systems. We investigate risks across the food production and distribution continuum, assess the environmental and social impacts of dietary patterns, and develop strategies to enhance food system sustainability.
Through interdisciplinary collaboration, we aim to ensure safe, equitable, and environmentally responsible access to nutritious food for current and future generations.
Our sub themes
Alternative Proteins
Our research into alternative proteins focuses on their potential to transform food systems by reducing environmental impact, enhancing nutritional profiles, and improving food security. We explore innovations such as plant-based proteins and insect-based foods, assessing their safety, scalability, and consumer acceptance. By examining the entire lifecycle, from production to consumption, we aim to identify sustainable pathways that can supplement or replace conventional animal-based proteins.
Sustainable, Safe and Healthy Food Systems
We investigate how to design and support food systems that are environmentally sustainable, resilient, and capable of delivering safe and nutritious food for all. Our work focuses on reducing environmental impacts, enhancing food safety standards, and promoting equitable access to healthy diets through integrated, systems-based approaches.
Our people
Our research academics and staff—including research fellows, research associates, and research assistants— all play a vital role in supporting and developing our work in Food Safety, Security and Sustainability.
