UMFULA: Uncertainty reduction in models for understanding development applications

Jointly funded by NERC and DIFD

External primary investigator: Professor Declan Conway, London School of Economics

The UMFULA project is part of the Future Climate For Africa programme. UMFULA (‘river’ in Zulu) will provide new insights and more reliable information about climate processes and extremes in Central and Southern Africa. UMFULA will partner with agencies and universities in Tanzania and Malawi to link the information to development decisions with long-term consequences.

The team is generating for the region new insights and more reliable information about climate processes and extreme weather events and their impacts on water, energy and agriculture, with the aim to support long-term (5 to 40 years) planning decisions around resource use, infrastructure investment and cross-sectoral growth priorities.
