Why did you choose to study this course at the Institute for Transport Studies?

I chose to study this course because my undergraduate background is in Transport Engineering and I wanted to continue learning about transport. When I applied to the University of Leeds, the Institute for Transport Studies was 4th in ranking for Transport. Besides this, the cultural and society activities were attractive for me.

What has been the best aspect of studying your course so far and why?

I think the best aspect is that the course provides me an opportunity to understand transport from multiple perspectives; including social, psychological, geographical and practical perspectives. I can not only obtain academic knowledge but also learn to solve problems in practical projects.

Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed.

We have finished the 'Transport Integrated Project' module recently. This module is mainly about the redevelopment of Leeds City Square after it was closed to general traffic. The vision of the redesign in our group is mainly about introducing a big green space in the centre of the City Square and using the concept of shared space to design a pedestrian prioritized zone. This is a multi-disciplinary project and requires great teamwork. I have learned a lot during the process of working with other members and it was really excited to finish the work as a group.

Have you been on any fieldtrips? If so, what was your experience of these?

Yes, I have been on the Sheffield fieldtrip. We visited the Traffic Control Centre and got to know how the traffic on the highway had been scheduled and monitored. And we went hiking to the mountains in snowy weather which was an amazing experience for me.

What are your ambitions for the future?

In the future I want to find a job in a transport consultant department as a transport planner. And I will try my best to find solutions for the traffic congestion, traffic safety and other issues.

What would you say to students coming to do the same course?

I want to say the education and academic resources are excellent in Institute for Transport Studies and the social life is quite enjoyable here. Make the best of the opportunity of studying here and enjoy your life!
