Research project
XCYCLE - Fairer, safer cycling
- Start date: 1 June 2015
- End date: 30 November 2018
- Funder: EU Horizon 2020
- External primary investigator:
Professor Luca Pietrantoni, University of Bologna
- Co-investigators: Professor Oliver Carsten
Cyclists suffer a disproportionate share of road collisions and are not treated equally by traffic systems. XCYCLE is developing technologies to improve detection of cyclists at junctions, and effective methods of presenting information in trucks to help avoid collisions with cyclists.
The first objective of XCYCLE will be to significantly improve the safety of cyclists of all age groups and heterogeneous user types in their potentially dangerous interaction with passenger cars and HGVs.
The TruckSIM advanced commercial vehicle simulator is the latest addition to the University of Leeds Driving Simulator (UoLDS).
