- Co-investigators: Dr Stephen Hunter
The Pliocene Arctic Climate Teleconnections (PACT) project is jointly funded by Norwegian Research Council and Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India.
PACT is exploring teleconnections between the Arctic Climate and the Indian and the Australian monsoon system using IODP cores and palaeoclimate modelling for the mid-Pliocene Warm Period (3 million years ago), when global temperatures were similar to that predicted for the end of this century and atmospheric concentrations of CO2 were as high as present.
PACT is a multi-institutional effort in collaboration with the National Centre for Antarctic & Ocean Research (NCAOR, India), Centre for Arctic Gas Hydrate, Environment and Climate, The Arctic University of Norway (UiT-CAGE, Norway), Geological Survey of Norway (NGU), Plymouth University (UK), University of Leeds (UK), and BirbalSahni Institute of Paleosciences (BSIP, India).
