What have you been doing since finishing your studies?
After I graduated, I stayed on living in Leeds and worked on a city-wide recycling project with Zero Waste Leeds. I was a Project Coordinator for a sustainable energy and climate change education charity called Energy Heroes where I taught in over 100 schools! Alongside Energy Heroes I did a part-time internship with Leeds Tidal to organise a Leeds largest activist gathering.
Now I am based in Glasgow working for a Climate Coalition called Stop Climate Chaos Scotland. I am a project coordinator for the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP26. I am building a platform called the ‘Climate Fringe’ to bring together global civil society in the run up to COP26.
What experiences at Leeds do you think have particularly helped with your career?
Going to Leeds was the best decision I could have made! Being involved in environmental projects throughout my time at uni and my internship in sustainable events helped me get the job I have today.
Why did you choose to study your particular course and why did you choose the University of Leeds?
I wanted to study a course that gave me a solutions-based approach to solving the climate crisis. The course was so diverse, I was able to study sustainable transport, energy and even anthropology!
What was the best aspect of your course?
I did a community engagement module where I had the change to do a placement with a pedal powered sustainable energy project. I loved the practical side of the module and it definitely helped me get my first job out of uni.
What activities outside of your studies were you involved in?
I was involved in quite a few societies, Green Action Coop, Enviro Soc, Meditation and Vegetarian Society.
What would you say to students thinking about studying your course?
If you care about helping fight climate change in a realistic way that can make effective change, apply for Environment and Business. You won’t regret it!
