Physical Climate Change

We research several aspects of the Earth’s climate, particularly those associated with identifying causes of climate change and how the large scale climate responds. In particular we use ideas of the Earth’s energy budget to help understand climate change employing a combination of models, analyses of observations and direct measurements.

We collaborate more widely to examine issues of climate adaptation and mitigation, including researching a possible role for geo-engineering.

We also contribute to international policy assessments and frameworks, such as UN Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change and WMO/UNEP Ozone assessment reports and we regularly collaborate with scientists in the UK and around the world, including the NOAA ERSL laboratory in Boulder Colorado and the UK Met Office.
